Type anything below and this mirror text generator flips it backwards, like writing seen in a mirror. Choose Mirror Text to copy and paste reflected Unicode letters into Instagram, TikTok, Discord or WhatsApp, Mirror Image to download an exact reflection as a PNG for printing, or Reverse Text to simply write your letters backwards.
What Is Mirror Text?
Mirror text is writing flipped horizontally, so it reads correctly only when you hold it up to a mirror. Two things change when text is mirrored: the order of the letters runs from right to left, and each letter faces the other way, so a b becomes a d and an R turns into Я.
A keyboard cannot type a backwards letter, because standard fonts only contain letters facing the normal way. This tool works around that by swapping each letter for a real Unicode character that already looks like its reflection, such as ɘ for e or Ǝ for E, and then reversing the order. The result is ordinary text, so it pastes anywhere text is accepted. For example, Hello World becomes blɿoW ollɘH. The effect is strongest with capital letters.
How to Use the Mirror Text Generator
- Type or paste your text into the mirror text generator. You can use up to 500 characters and several lines; each line is mirrored separately.
- Pick a mode: Mirror Text, Mirror Image or Reverse Text.
- Adjust alignment, size, text color and background to see how it will look.
- Click Copy to copy the mirrored Unicode text, then paste it into your app.
- Click Download PNG to save an image. Tick Transp first if you need a transparent background for stickers, decals or iron-on transfers.
Mirror Text vs Mirror Image vs Reverse Text
The three modes solve different problems. Use this table to pick the right one.
| Mode | What it does | Copy and paste? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mirror Text | Reverses the order and swaps letters for Unicode look-alikes | Yes, anywhere | Bios, captions, usernames, puzzles |
| Mirror Image | Flips the real letters exactly, like a reflection | Copy gives the Unicode version; the PNG is exact | Iron-on transfers, window decals, signs, design mockups |
| Reverse Text | Writes letters backwards without changing their shape | Yes, anywhere | Word games, palindromes, hidden messages |
Mirror text flips left to right. If you want text rotated 180 degrees instead, use the Upside Down Text Generator.
How Mirror Text Works
Unicode, the standard that defines every character on your phone and computer, includes a number of letters that happen to look like reflected Latin letters. Some come from phonetic alphabets, some from Cyrillic, and a few were added for old inscriptions and maths. The mirror text generator maps each normal letter to the closest reflected character. Here are some of the characters it uses, with their official names from the Unicode code charts.
| Normal | Mirrored | Code point | Unicode name |
|---|---|---|---|
| a | ɒ | U+0252 | Latin small letter turned alpha |
| e | ɘ | U+0258 | Latin small letter reversed e |
| r | ɿ | U+027F | Latin small letter reversed r with fishhook |
| s | ꙅ | U+A645 | Cyrillic small letter reversed dze |
| E | Ǝ | U+018E | Latin capital letter reversed E |
| L | ⅃ | U+2143 | Reversed sans-serif capital L |
| N | И | U+0418 | Cyrillic capital letter I |
| P | ꟼ | U+A7FC | Latin epigraphic letter reversed P |
| R | Я | U+042F | Cyrillic capital letter Ya |
| ? | ⸮ | U+2E2E | Reversed question mark |
Symmetrical letters such as A, H, I, M, O, T, U, V, W, X and Y, and lowercase i, l, m, n, o, u, v, w and x, look the same in a mirror, so they stay unchanged. Pairs that are reflections of each other simply swap places: b and d, p and q, and opening and closing brackets. A few letters, including f, g, k, t and y, and some digits have no true reflected character in Unicode, so the tool uses the closest shape available. That is why some mirror text looks slightly uneven, and why capital letters usually mirror more convincingly than lowercase.
Where People Use Mirror Text
- Leonardo da Vinci style notes. Leonardo, who was left-handed, wrote most of his private notebooks in mirror script from right to left. Mirror text is a popular way to recreate that look for school projects and posters.
- Ambulances and emergency vehicles. The word AMBULANCE is often printed in reverse on the front so drivers read it the right way in their rear-view mirror. Use Mirror Image mode to recreate it for signs and mockups.
- Iron-on transfers and window decals. Heat transfer paper and decals stuck on the inside of glass must be printed reversed so they read correctly when applied. Download a transparent PNG in Mirror Image mode for this.
- Social media. A mirrored line in an Instagram bio, TikTok caption or Discord status catches attention because readers have to pause to decode it.
- Puzzles and escape rooms. Mirror text makes a simple hidden clue that players solve with a mirror or phone camera.
Where Mirror Text Works and Where It Does Not
Because mirror text is plain Unicode, it pastes into almost every app. There are a few limits worth knowing before you use it somewhere important:
- Search: a mirrored word is a different set of characters, so search engines and in-app search cannot match it to the normal word. Keep usernames and important keywords in plain text.
- Screen readers: assistive technology reads the substitute characters by their own names or skips them, so mirrored text is not accessible. Avoid it for essential information. Our guide on how search engines and AI read Unicode text explains why.
- Older devices: a few characters, such as ꟼ and ꓘ, come from newer Unicode blocks and can appear as empty boxes on old phones. See why fancy text looks like boxes for fixes.
- Character limits: some mirrored characters count as two characters on platforms such as X, so leave a little room under the limit.
Tips for the Best Result
- Use short words or names. Mirror text is a visual effect, and long sentences become hard to read.
- Try capital letters. Uppercase has more true reflected characters, such as Ǝ, Я, И and ⅃, so the effect looks cleaner.
- For print, always use Mirror Image mode and the PNG download. It flips the real letters, so the result is a perfect reflection. For Word, Google Docs, Canva and Cricut steps, read our guide on how to mirror text.
- Send yourself a test message before posting, to confirm every character shows on your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a mirror text generator?
A mirror text generator flips your text horizontally so it reads like a reflection. It reverses the letter order and replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks backwards, so you can copy and paste the result.
How do I write in mirror text?
Type your text into the generator, choose Mirror Text, and click Copy. Paste it into Instagram, TikTok, Discord, WhatsApp or any app that accepts text.
Can I copy and paste mirror text?
Yes. Mirror Text and Reverse Text produce plain Unicode text that copies and pastes anywhere. Mirror Image is an exact visual flip, so download it as a PNG; its Copy button gives the Unicode version.
Why do some letters not look perfectly mirrored?
Unicode does not include a reflected version of every letter. Letters such as f, g, k, t and y and some digits use the closest available shape, so they look approximate.
How do I print mirrored text for an iron-on transfer?
Choose Mirror Image, tick Transp for a transparent background, set your size and color, and click Download PNG. Print the image on transfer paper; it will read correctly once pressed onto fabric.
What is the difference between mirror text and upside down text?
Mirror text flips text from left to right, like a reflection. Upside down text rotates it 180 degrees, so it reads correctly when the screen is turned over.
