X (formerly Twitter) does not let you pick a font for posts. Here is how to change font on Twitter anyway, in two ways: X Premium subscribers get bold and italic buttons in the composer, and anyone can paste Unicode styled text such as 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 or 𝓼𝓬𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓽 into posts, replies, the bio and the display name. You can also change the size of the text X shows you. To make styled text for free, use our Twitter Font Generator.

How to Change Font on Twitter: 3 Ways
| Method | Cost | Works in | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium B and I buttons | X Premium (any tier) | Posts and replies | Bold and italic only; not on mobile web |
| Unicode styled text | Free | Posts, replies, bio, display name, DMs | Hides words from search; counts extra characters |
| Display settings | Free | Your own screen only | Changes size, not style, and only for you |
Method 1: Bold and Italic With X Premium
According to Roboin, all X Premium plans (Basic, Premium and Premium+) add formatting buttons to the post composer:
- Desktop: write your post, select the words, then click B for bold or I for italic at the bottom of the composer.
- Mobile app: tap the small-A/large-A button to reveal the B and I buttons, then select text and tap one.
- Mobile browser: formatting is not available; use the app or the desktop site.
This is real formatting, so the words stay searchable and readable by screen readers. The catch is that it only works for subscribers and only in posts, not in your bio or name.
Method 2: Free Fancy Fonts With Unicode
- Open the Twitter Font Generator and type your text.
- Copy a style: bold, italic, script, small caps, gothic and more.
- Paste it into a post, reply, your bio or your display name on X.
- Check the preview, then post or save.
Styles that work well on X
| Style | Example | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Sans bold | 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱: 7 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 | Thread hooks and headings |
| Sans italic | 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 | Quotes and asides |
| Serif bold | 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 | Announcements |
| Small caps | ꜰᴏᴜɴᴅᴇʀ · ᴡʀɪᴛᴇʀ | Bio taglines |
| Script | 𝓙𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓪𝓷 𝓛𝓮𝓮 | Display names |
Use Unicode fonts carefully
- Search: styled words are different characters, so they will not match searches. Keep keywords, names and hashtags in plain text.
- Character count: X counts most styled letters as 2 characters toward the 280 limit, so a fully styled post holds about half as many letters.
- Accessibility: screen readers may read styled letters one at a time. Style a few words, not the whole post.

Method 3: Change the Font Size on X
- Open Settings and privacy.
- Go to Accessibility, display and languages, then Display.
- Drag the font size slider. The change applies only to how X looks on your device.
X does not offer a font family choice in settings. If text looks too small or too large, this slider and your phone’s own text-size setting are the only controls.
How to Change the Font of Your X Name and Bio
- Go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Paste styled text into the Name or Bio field.
- Tap Save. Your @handle cannot use fancy fonts; it only accepts letters, numbers and underscores.
